From France Inter to France Culture, with her soft but firm voice, Aurélie Charon has made her own mark on the world of radio. Memory, storytelling, involvement and resistance are the main topics of her work on the radio.
In her theatrical broadcast RADIO live, she gives the floor to young people questioning democracy and identity. The stage then becomes an extension of a radio talk show, creating unexpected connections which invent novel narration of the present. For a more thematic approach, there is ICI’s RADIO live project, where young Syrian choreographer Mithkal Alzghair, gives a performance, animates a Club de danse and tells his story.
TRANSACTION by Mithkal Alzghair — Performance (creation 2017)
Thursday 20th April 2016 at 7pm — The Bagouet studio
PREMIERE: June 20th, 2017 — C ND Pantin
In Transaction, Mithkal Alzghair (former student of the exerce Master degree, year 2011/2013) stages an installation-performance exploring the production of images and the representation of the body in times of war, especially in his own country, Syria. These images became part of our daily life. Some distract us, some inform us and others assault us like bombs, while we block our ears refusing to hear the explosion. Some are so horrific that they repulse us before disappearing for the benefit of the political machine. Others are endlessly repeated by the media, until they lose all sense of humanity, and finish by disembodying bodies which are already dead. Until the subject in the picture is gone. Some of these images cannot be shown, because sometimes reality is too much for our own reality. Some are invisible.
How can we produce such images today? How can we show the world what is really going on, the political violence and the reality of people being slaughtered while the world remains silent and our international systems inoperative? How can we show something that cannot be shown, how can we make something visible when our blinkered state prevents us from touching it? I have sought to build a dance environment where I could reach a balance and find convergence between the two parallel lines of reality and art. To create images which whisper in order to hear the horrified screams they so clearly hide.

RADIO LIVE — La nouvelle génération au micro
Friday 21st April 2017 at 8pm — The Bagouet studio
RADIO live is a sign of life: the joyful manifesto of a generation, fed up with people speaking for them. This is a 3-D radio talk show with music, archives and lively shared experiences. Aurélie Charon and Caroline Gillet invite the “characters” of their France Inter radio show up on stage: a new, politically engaged generation takes the floor. Amélie Bonnin draws for us live as we slip into their scenery, their imagination. This is not a show and this is not a conference. It is more than just a meeting. It is a moment from the future, a taste of tomorrow, today. Everyone has their own narration and language, their own movement and gestures. They come from Gaza, Algiers, Moscow, Sarajevo, Tel Aviv and Teheran... With voices dubbed over, they put their own words on their own type of democracy, the democracy of tomorrow. It is like suggesting a different story from that currently used.
Each summer for five years now on France Inter, nine 60-minute episodes have been created as part of a series to analyse the imagination, daily life and engagement of young people:
— Alger nouvelle génération (2011)
— I like Europe (2012)
— Welcome Nouveau Monde (2013 / Sarajevo-Beyrouth-Istanbul-Jérusalem)
— Underground Democracy (2014 / Gaza-Téhéran-Moscou-Alger)
— Une série française (2015 / France)
