Discovery and initiation

"District Danse", a project by Elsa Decaudin
"District Danse", a project by Elsa Decaudin

With our partners, we offer several audience-tailored discovery sessions on the role of “being a spectator”; developing sensitivity, meeting artists and their work, experiencing the creative processes of a performance, discovering the different fields of dance and performance. These sessions allow participants to fully enter the world of contemporary art.

A SEASON WITH US

hTh – CDN of Montpellier, Montpellier Danse, the Opera, the National Orchestra of Montpellier and ICI—CCN work in partnership to offer a series of performances to high school students of greater Montpellier. The performances are accompanied by introductory sessions, workshops of discovery and meetings with artists in order that students learn more about contemporary art and performance. The project was co-constructed with high school teachers.

DANCE AND MUSIC TECHNICIAN HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA, Clemenceau High School

In order to give a better understanding of the professional context and challenges of contemporary art to future music and dance professionals, a course involving meetings with professionals, invitations to performances and rehearsal sessions throughout the year, has been specially developed for this purpose. The project was born of the partnership between teachers, the Choreographic Centre mediation team and the OONM mediation team.

MONTPELLIER NATIONAL SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE

The ICI—CCN and the National School of Architecture partner to organise meetings between exerce students and architecture students in order to exchange practices and promote the emergence of collective projects. A discovery and awareness building course on contemporary dance is also offered to architecture students, alongside Elsa Decaudin’s artist residence at the ENSAM.

DISTRICT DANSE

— A weekend event in December, 2016

— Performances on the 28th February and the 1st March, 2017

District danse is a three-year project developed by choreographer Elsa Decaudin and intended for general viewing. In three districts of Montpellier (Pompignane, Croix d’argent and Mosson), three choreographers, Elsa Decaudin, Brigitte Negro and Leonardo Montecchia give three groups of non-professionals aged between 4 and 90 years old, the opportunity to take part in the creation of three short dances. Participants experience a choreographic process from A to Z, right up to the final performance in a professional context at the Choreographic Centre’s Bagouet studio.

VOLTAIRE COMMUNITY CENTRE

Aimed at a middle-school audience, the Voltaire community centre offers awareness building sessions in partnership with the Choreographic Centre’s programme. Out-of-school workshops train young people in the art of spectatorship.

GEORGES SAND COMMUNITY CENTRE

In support of the Georges Sand community centre’s dance programme, Montpellier Danse and the ICI—CCN organise workshops for community centre members, along with meetings and conferences.

IME JACOU

A course to discover contemporary dance for children from Jacou IME (medical and educational institute). Families are also welcome to attend performances.

SCHOOLS IN THE METROPOLIS

2017 projects (pending)

In order to spotlight choreographic creation in the metropolis and meet EAC criteria (EAC: artistic and cultural education) on the Choreographic Centre’s public service programmes, the ICI—CCN builds projects with schools in order to foster access to choreographic art for young people. Invitations to performances, meetings, visits and workshops help youngsters to better understand creative arts from an early age, thus preparing them to become open-minded and culturally-aware citizens of the future.
