Philosophical greed. Audacity and theatrical fantasies. Fool proof dry humour. With unequalled spirit, Marco Berrettini’s work always involves some sort of adventure, sometimes stressful exploration, which freely leads to strange situations and astonishment. All this stubbornly introduces contemporary matters of destiny in the light of current philosophies.

IFEEL2 — Show (creation 2012)

Tuesday 21st March 2017 at 8pm — The Bagouet studio

In an artificial garden-a sort of blue-tinted, psychedelic Eden-a man-bush wanders: electro-hypnotic guitar riffs echo, and a man and woman, bare-chested in tight jeans, start a remote and intense dance duet. Do Marco Berrettini and Marie-Caroline Hominal — intense and abstract figures, both rock’n roll and primitive at the same time — represent a certain idea of Desire? A distressing glimpse of Otherness?

Who better than a man and woman to question natural selection? Raymonda firmly believes in God and Creation, while Taylor swears by Darwin and the theory of evolution. The setting is a virgin forest, far from Eden and gender confrontation. A forest free of biblical references or sin, where plants and creatures all come together. Within this frosted garden of delights with a psychedelic edge, the same old magnetic scene takes place; two bodies, two mirrored spirits and a bush. Adventurous dancer and choreographer Marco Berrettini (a student of Pina Bausch after he won a disco-dance championship in Germany in 1987), comes back on stage with dancer and choreographer Marie-Caroline Hominal for a hypnotic pas de deux (literally: step of two); the choreography borders upon the philosophical marathon-trance. An exploration of the sublime to the notes of SUMMER MUSIC, an experimental electro-pop band created by Marco Berrettini and musician Samuel Pajand.

BODY WORLD TRIP — Performance

Thursday 30th March 2017 at 7pm —The Bagouet studio

Body World Trip is a dance project. Instinctive dance, which starts from the body and opens to the world then starts from the world to go back to the body, into the womb, into the cells. Numerous similar phenomena will take place on the paths of work and experience, which eventually will cross. Connections will develop between the performers, as they share thoughts, feelings and experiences; but there will also be differences, because each of us has a different view of our own inner-self and the way in which we see others, the world and dance. I would like to deepen the existing connections between body and the world. We often separate our lives like drawers, independent from one another. Occasionally painful reality teaches us that everything is connected, that everything has a cause and an effect. Certainly, the impacts or “symptoms” are different. War in Syria is not the same as war in Nigeria, but some similarities can be found between the two. It is the same for our body and the way we move, different but similar at the same time. What are the principles of movement? And, how do our bodies behave when we socialise?  Our skin is a membrane which works both ways: we observe and are observed in turn. The rhythm of our dance, the strength in our legs, is the result of our culture and our culture is anchored in history, seen as an evolving body, losing itself, poisoning itself but returning to regenerate. Body World Trip is a project composed of several parts. With the performers, I develop parts which are named after the performers. Thus, one part will be called “Ruth’s body” and another, “Ruth’s world”; one part “Sébastien’s body” and another “Sébastien’s world”, and so on. The length of each part will be different. There are sequences of just a few minutes long and others lasting 45 minutes... I also imagine that the parts could be performed separately on stage or in other places, such as museums, galleries, gardens, etc.

"Body World Trip is a dance project which deepens the existing connections between body and the world. An instinctive dance, which starts from the body and opens to the world and which starts from the world and opens to the body, into womb, into cells. The performance will gather materials, thoughts, feelings and experiences, as well as differences, because we all have a different view of our own inner-self and the way in which we see others, the world and dance."
