Valérie Castan

biographie

Choreographic artist Valérie Castan graduated from CNDC in Angers (France) in 1986. Her career has been shaped by a rich array of stage experiences and artistic collaborations, ranging from Philippe Decouflé to Ballets Redha, Pierre Doussaint's company L'Esquisse, Loïc Touzé, Christian Trouillas, Olivia Grandville, Eszter Salamon, and Daniel Larrieu, as well as Mié Coquempot, Mickaël Phelippeau, Antonia Baehr, Gaëtan Bulourde — and more recently, Pauline Brun and Gérald Kurdian.

After completing a Master’s degree in Dance at Paris 8 University with the aim of expanding her expertise, she pursued training in audio description methodology for cinema at ESIT – Paris Dauphine. She has since adapted this practice for choreographic performance.

Since 2012, she has written and performed live audio description for around twenty choreographic works. Prior to each performance, she offers visually impaired audience members a tactile tour of the stage and a dance workshop, allowing them to physically engage with certain elements of the work.

In addition, she teaches audio description methodology for choreographic performance in various professional training programs and develops artistic projects centered on this practice.
