Femke Gyselinck

Dance, text and music coexist in Femke Gyselinck’s (Belgium) choreography, in a quest to exalt unique relationships.

Trained at P.A.R.T.S contemporary dance school, Femke danced for Eleanor Bauer, Andros Zinsbrowne and Esther Venrooy, before working as artistic assistant for Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker for nine years. Alongside her work with Rosas company, Femke’s performance incorporates structures and movements specific to musicality, with great finesse.

Letters 2 Dance — 2021 creation

Meeting with Femke Gyselinck and her team on the creative process

Somewhere between the arbitrariness of signs and the sometimes erratic meaning of communication, how can the body speak? How can dance describe space? Inspired by the collective work ABECEDA, whose images marked the interwar Czech avant-garde era, Letters 2 Dance invites viewers to decipher the palimpsest of movement. A subtle meshing of letter to movement, an assumption of writing within choreography.
