Presentation - Life long burning

— A European journey

Europe, a territory of action, is central to all we do. De facto, we are present and engaged in Europe in multiple ways: circulation of Christian Rizzo’s work, hosting of companies as part of the residency programme and Par/ICI:, exerce master training programme. It is no longer about being a part or not, today Europe is happening and we are active participants in the process. It is our duty to build Europe through time and projects, reinforcing it, while working in synergy with our European partners to support contemporary dance.

The mission of the National Choreographic Centre of Montpellier - Occitanie is to provide support for young creation in diverse forms via facilities, a team, resources and a network. ICI—CCN has been working with European partners pursuing the same objective for many years: over the past fifteen years, projects may have evolved, new partners may have joined, but the will and objectives have stayed intact.

Support has taken on many forms: training of choreographic artists, direct support for creation through residencies and co-production, hosting of administrative trainees, future young professionals to support artists and exchange with European partners to promote artist mobility to work with others and discover new places, while confronting visions and practices: in short, sharing and growing together.

— Life Long Burning

European network Life Long Burning – Towards a sustainable Eco-System for Contemporary Dance in Europe– from July 1st, 2018 to June 30th, 2022

Life Long Burning is led by a collaborative network of 11 European partner organisations from the contemporary dance creation sector.

The goal is to anchor choreographic practice, production and outreach within a wider societal and discursive context.

Life Long Burning’s activities centre on two main priorities:

  • boosting artistic development
  • fostering professionalization of the sector and enhanced recognition of the art form and its impact in Europe.

Our aim is to provide sustainable support for artists in accordance with needs in terms of production, training, research and mobility.

We will work to develop research, experimentation, alternative creative forms and debate on artistic, social and political issues, within which the role of artists and audiences can be revisited.

Within this network, ICI-CCN will focus more particularly on connections and links with the Mediterranean.

— The "Life Long Burning" success story continues

We are very happy to announce that the success story of Life Long Burning continues!

With this new project, Life Long Burning - Futures Lost and Found (LLB3 January 1, 2023 - December 31, 2026), ICI-CCN continues the European cooperation actions built since 1998.

In a Europe today confronted with even more social divisions, in the grip of war in part of its neighboring territories, and under the threat of a pandemic, its consequences and the different political responses to it, confronted with the immense challenge of climate change, the ambition of this network made up of partners from 12 countries (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Finland, France, Croatia, Hungary, the Netherlands, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden) is to take into account a certain number of societal issues, among which

LLB3 tackles the following:

+ addressing and fighting social exclusion,

+ advocating for decision-making processes in dance as a role model for a democratic and fair Europe,

+ fostering the CCS job market both on the artistic and the admin side,

+ sustainably accompanying emerging and mid-career dance artists and dance admin.
