Artistic statement
Living space has always fascinated Christian Rizzo. An eternal designer of bodies and objects, he opens fresh poetic and ephemeral landscapes with each new creation. Une maison is perfectly timed to punctuate Rizzo’s approach and to rock the patterns of his dance.
As if to turn the sky the right way up again, under the geometric and luminous framework of a suspended roof, bodies and memories return to furrow space. So many silhouettes, presences, un-tethered gestures that gradually haunt and bring life, color, brilliance to this singular way of seeing movement, and to the enigmatic stories that people it.
If at first, it is through abstraction and the play on black and white that each dance weaves its own web, that each dancer chisels time, while depositing offerings and imagination in a lunar whiteness, the rigorous structure of space unravels bit by bit. Brown, golden, clouds, sepia, color pigment the stage before metamorphosing it completely.
For the choreographer, une maison is not what we expect…a closed, protected place encased by walls, doors and windows. It is more a place where bodies circulate, murmur, resound…the path of multiple, intersecting lives. Its foundations are like encounters, human and artistic collaborations, combining gesture and utopia. Beyond the absence or loss that sometimes crosses it, une maison states common, populated ground and resonates with intense polyphonic richness until climax, a jubilation of festival and fantasy.
