Eight dancers and two drummers. Ten men, gripped in the vice of “masculinity”. Some ten years ago, d’après une histoire vraie (based on a true story) opened the gate to irresistible fluidity of polarity, breaking down angsts one by one through the grace and passion of movement. The performers are invited here to redeploy choreographic creation, wherein the divisions between tradition and modernity are delicately resolved. A pivotal piece, if ever there was one. Bringing the memory of emotion to an incandescent culmination, stretching materials to breaking point. In the friction between telluric rhythms and undulating bodies, dance explores its own physicality. Keeping apace with the music, it spans from tribal ritual to geometric form, fiction to abstraction, group to community. But it is always through the underground solidarity of movement, whereby one holds together thanks to the presence of others, that landless folklore emerges. Falling in response to constantly renewed contact, spinning to the reassurance of an outstretched hand, grasped wholeheartedly. Singularities are observed, then unite and break away, before reuniting once more. Togetherness? The question is blazingly urgent here.
